Review : Epiphone Les Paul Standard Electric Guitar (Ebony)

The Epiphone Les Paul Special II has followed on from the original model and is targeted at the beginner or entry level guitarist. It offers a well manufactured Les Paul guitar to thousands of musicians who otherwise could not have had access to the genuine Gibson model. As many of you will know Epiphone has been reproducing replica copies of the Gibson Les Paul under licence after Epiphone were purchased by Gibson several years ago

The Epiphone Les Paul Special was the original entry level offering that made its debut in 2006 and has now been supplemented by the Les Paul Special II. The main difference between the original and the LP Special II is the choice of woods on the body, the original was laminated mahogany whilst the Special II features a laminated Alder/Maple body

The neck however is still made from mahogany with a rosewood finger board, like the original the body is flat and therefore devoid of the curved top as on the Les Paul standard and custom models. The pick-ups are hum-bucking open coil type and the bridge tail and machine heads are chrome plated. This particular model is available in several finishes that include Ebony, Heritage cherry sunburst, Vintage Sunburst, White, and Wine red with black hardware..

Gibson Review

The Gibson Les Paul Studio enhances the solid, proven design of the world’s most famous guitar with a sleek, no-frills look.
The Studio Les Paul gives traditional performance with a Modern attitude. Introduced nearly 25 years ago as a guitar for the studio musician, the Les Paul Studio has become one of the most desired Les Pauls for it’s tremendous harmonic capabilities.

The Studio maintains the iconic Les Paul’s traditional elements: a maple top with a matched mahogany back, and a neck crafted from a single piece of mahogany, hand-sanded to perfection, and given Gibson’s traditional 50 rounded neck profile.

The body is comprised of a carved maple top with a mahogany back. The neck is the ’59 rounded Les Paul shape. Its humbuckers are a 490R (neck) and 498T Alnicos. With the rest of the Les Paul line, the Studio carries forward decades of Gibson excellence.

Read what some of our customers have said:

The sound is amazing. You’ll sound like a pro just by playing this guitar. Dennis K. From Shippensburg PASounds perfect. I am not changing a thing! mayes213 From Poseyville, IN

I’ve had a hard time putting it down since I got it. Sounds awesome! Joe L. from Overland Park

The Les Paul Studio is the favorite of guitarists who demand traditional Les Paul performance with a modern look.

Gibson Pickups

490R
This Modern Classic pickup features tonal characteristics similar to the ’57 Classic, but delivers a slight increase in the upper mids, for a more contemporary humbucking sound. The special Alnico II magnet gives this beauty a singing quality that delivers on demand.

498T
Put a slightly hotter Alnico V magnet into a specially wound coil combination, and you get the 498T Hot Alnico with its higher output and emphasis on mid-ranges and highs, the 498T is the perfect rock pickup.

Guitar Les Paul Electric (Fireburst, Gold Hardware)

Guitar Les Paul Electric (Fireburst, Gold Hardware)

I just aquired a 1997 les paul studio

, I still wanted to share my experience with potential buyers, i have had a strat since 1998 and thought it was a good guitar, but after 5 minutes on my les paul, there are no words that can describe the feeling….the feel, the sound…, if you cant afford a more expensive les paul, this one will give you the sounds without breaking your wallet, i know i am selling my strat now…there will be no going back for me….you can be sure you are getting the real thing, only without the frills…

I am very, very impressed. First of all, mine is in the Desertburst finish and it is absolutely gorgeous. The way the light reflects off the paint job makes it even more beautiful.

Sure, neck and body binding would have been nice, but in my opinion, the lack of binding is the only thing that differs from the Standard. The stock pickups are very nice; you can get very versatile sounds out of them, but I still would like to upgrade to some ‘57 Classics. The tuners are pretty nice, but I would have like gold ones better that the greenish ivory-looking ones. Aside from everything else, this guitar is solid as a ROCK! The first night I got it, I accidentally released my strap lock, which sent my baby crashing to the tile floor. When I picked it up, all that was wrong with it was a cracked knob! Incredible.
